Because God speaks to us in our experiences, this prayer book starts with common executive experiences and makes them raw material for prayer. You can expect the following outline to be followed for executive experience.
Section I of each entry, begins with a situation, a challenge, an experience that we “bring to God’s attention.” The dialogue begins with reflecting on the experience, noting God’s presence in this experience, understanding ourselves as it relates to this situation and the decisions to be made; we share that experience and ask for God’s assistance.
Section II of each entry provides Hebrew and Christian scripture that pertains to this executive experience. The scriptural narratives arises out of the story being lived by the executive. It is an opportunity to think and feel deeper, to hear God’s word and note the similarity between the ancient narrative and the contemporary one.
Section III provides time for meditation, for mindfulness, listening to God’s voice in both the experiences of the day and the vicarious experience of the scripture.
Finally, the last section provides an opportunity to integrate the three sections of vocal prayer, scripture and meditation to offer one’s own words to complete the dialogue.
It is my hope that over time, the reader will begin to create their own Section 1. To share with God the experience and challenge of being a leader. Then the reader might more easily utilize scripture for a deeper understanding of their finite situation and mindfully relate the situation to their own inner selves where they continue to experience the presence of the Other.
Each scriptural entry has both a Hebrew Scripture and a Christian Text so that people of different religious affiliations, or none at all, will feel comfortable.
