Reflecting on the Challenges of Leadership
Introduction
In 30 years of coaching and working with executives, I’ve learned that many are looking for more than personal and professional success. These “seekers” not only want to do their best for their company and stakeholders, they also want to be their best. Regardless of religious affiliation, they are searching for something deeper. They reflect on the meaning of their lives, the impact of their leadership on those they lead, the welfare of their colleagues. They constantly examine the trueness of their moral compasses.
This prayer book is for them.
To be authentic, to be true to one’s self, you must first understand and acknowledge who you are: your personal history — everything from your ethnicity to your experiences. You must also recognize your strengths and weaknesses, your talents and how you use them. But to truly complete this journey, you must explore your spirituality.
That is where prayer enters the equation. Listening to God helps integrate the concrete self with the inner self where the Almighty abides. Finding God does not require a miracle or thoephanic personal sighting. Nor does it demand a particular dogma or special theology. The Almighty speaks through experiences, both good and bad, and through conversations, both with others, including our enemies, and with ourselves. It is in the latter – in our self-reflection – where we often hear God – if we choose to listen….
