I am on my last hurrah here. I have announced my retirement and the board has accepted it. Don’t let me accept the chairmanship they offer, but rather allow my successor the same latitude I had in establishing my leadership.
I can be available as a consultant to my successor as desired, but not be looking over their shoulder or inadvertently begin defending the things that I decided and implemented. I desire to be of help, but help me to let go and let live. I can serve on other boards, even chair other boards and be more helpful that hanging on. Keep my ego in check, that I don’t listen to those who would try to keep me around and hamper my successor.
Section 2, Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:1-8;14-15;23; 2 Tim 4:6-8,18
Hebrew Scripture | New Testament |
1 When Moses had finished speaking these words to all Israel,2 he said to them, I am now one hundred and twenty years old and am no longer able to go out and come in; besides, the LORD has said to me, Do not cross this Jordan.3 It is the LORD, your God, who will cross before you; 6 Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the LORD, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you. Call of Joshua. 7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and in the presence of all Israel said to him, “Be strong and steadfast, for you shall bring this people into the land which the LORD swore to their ancestors he would give them; it is you who will give them possession of it. 8 It is the LORD who goes before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.”
Commission to Joshua. 14 The LORD said to Moses, The time is now approaching for you to die. Summon Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting that I may commission him. So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting. 15 And the LORD appeared at the tent in a column of cloud; the column of cloud stood at the entrance of the tent. …23 Then He commissioned Joshua, son of Nun, and said to him, Be strong and steadfast, for it is you who will bring the Israelites into the land which I promised them on oath. I myself will be with you. Deuteronomy 31:1-8;14-15;23 |
Paul says to Timothy:
6. For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. 8 From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen. 2 Timothy 4: 6-8, 18 |

You may wish to be silent for a few minutes. Listen and discern.

In your own words, in your own silence, speak with God.
