Performance anxiety

Step 1: Speak to God about the situation:

Oh Strong One, sometimes I do not feel strong.  At times, I feel inadequate for a situation.  Sometimes it is just in a social situation, I do no feel as comfortable as I would like and therefore my anxiety ruins the moment.   In those cases, I may worry too much about what people think about me or my family rather than let them experience the real me and my real family.   You are Truth, yet sometimes we are afraid of Truth and hide the Truth out of fear.   I would like to be and behave just as you created me – with my strengths and weaknesses – compared or not compared to others.

3 Prayer when feeling disjointed anxious

O Dependable One, I want to be dependable.  I don’t want to fail for two reasons – if I fail people they may be hurt or if I fail, they might think less of me.   I understand that some anxiety is a help to achieve good performance but it can also distract from the task and become too self centered.

Help me to stay away from tasks where my ineptitude would hurt others and in all other situations give me a love for the Truth about myself and move on with in confidence in the One Who Created Me.

Step 2: Let Scripture enlighten the situation for you:

Hebrew Scriptures New Testament
Psalm 25:1-14

1 O Lord, I give my life to you.
2 I trust in you, my God!
Do not let me be disgraced,
or let my enemies rejoice in my defeat.
3 No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced,
but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others.

4 Show me the right path, O Lord;
point out the road for me to follow.
5 Lead me by your truth and teach me,
for you are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.
6 Remember, O Lord, your compassion and unfailing love,
which you have shown from long ages past.
7 Do not remember the rebellious sins of my youth.
Remember me in the light of your unfailing love,
for you are merciful, O Lord.

8 The Lord is good and does what is right;
he shows the proper path to those who go astray.
9 He leads the humble in doing right,
teaching them his way.
10 The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness
all who keep his covenant and obey his demands.

11 For the honor of your name, O Lord,
forgive my many, many sins.
12 Who are those who fear the Lord?
He will show them the path they should choose.
13 They will live in prosperity,
and their children will inherit the land.
14 The Lord is a friend to those who fear him.
He teaches them his covenant.

Philippians 4:4-13

Joy and Peace.

4Rejoice* in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice

5Your kindness* should be known to all. The Lord is near.

6Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.

7Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

8g Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

9Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.

VII. Gratitude for the Philippians’ Generosity

10I rejoice greatly in the Lord that now at last you revived your concern for me. You were, of course, concerned about me but lacked an opportunity.

11Not that I say this because of need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I find myself, to be self-sufficient.

12I know indeed how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need.

13I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.
