Glorious Fall Weather

Step 1: Speak to God, share your feelings

We speak to You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit with gratitude for the beauty of your creation.   In New England and elsewhere with deciduous trees, your glory is mirrored in the myriad colors you have provided to us.   Your mountains are majestic, your valleys exude warmth, your trees provide the splendor of Solomon and the Joseph’s coat of many colors.

Step 2: Listen to God in Scripture

Hebrew Scripture New Testament
Genesis 37:1-11

Joseph’s coat like royalty

1 Jacob settled in the land where his father had sojourned, the land of Canaan.

2This is the story of the family of Jacob. When Joseph was seventeen years old, he was tending the flocks with his brothers; he was an assistant to the sons of his father’s wives Bilhah and Zilpah, and Joseph brought their father bad reports about them.

3Israel loved Joseph best of all his sons, for he was the child of his old age; and he had made him a long, ornamented tunic.

4When his brothers saw that their father loved him best of all his brothers, they hated him so much that they could not say a kind word to him.

5* Once Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers, they hated him even more.

6He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had.

7There we were, binding sheaves in the field, when suddenly my sheaf rose to an upright position, and your sheaves formed a ring around my sheaf and bowed down to it.”

8His brothers said to him, “Are you really going to make yourself king over us? Will you rule over us?” So they hated him all the more because of his dreams and his reports.

9Then he had another dream, and told it to his brothers. “Look, I had another dream,” he said; “this time, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.”

10When he told it to his father and his brothers, his father reproved him and asked, “What is the meaning of this dream of yours? Can it be that I and your mother and your brothers are to come and bow to the ground before you?”

11So his brothers were furious at him but his father kept the matter in mind.

Book of Revelations 4:1-11 – all creation worships God

1 After this I had a vision of an open door to heaven, and I heard the trumpetlike voice that had spoken to me before, saying, “Come up here and I will show you what must happen afterwards.”

2* At once I was caught up in spirit. A throne was there in heaven, and on the throne sat

3one whose appearance sparkled like jasper and carnelian. Around the throne was a halo as brilliant as an emerald.

4Surrounding the throne I saw twenty-four other thrones on which twenty-four elders sat, dressed in white garments and with gold crowns on their heads.

5From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder. Seven flaming torches burned in front of the throne, which are the seven spirits of God.

6 In front of the throne was something that resembled a sea of glass like crystal

In the center and around the throne, there were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back.

7The first creature resembled a lion, the second was like a calf, the third had a face like that of a human being, and the fourth looked like an eagle in flight.

8The four living creatures, each of them with six wings,* were covered with eyes inside and out. Day and night they do not stop exclaiming:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty,

who was, and who is, and who is to come.”

9Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to the one who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

10the twenty-four elders fall down before the one who sits on the throne and worship him, who lives forever and ever. They throw down their crowns before the throne, exclaiming:

11“Worthy are you, Lord our God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for you created all things;

because of your will they came to be and were created.”

{footnote: [4:111] The seer now describes a vision of the heavenly court in worship of God enthroned. He reverently avoids naming or describing God but pictures twenty-four elders in priestly and regal attire (Rev 4:4) and God’s throne and its surroundings made of precious gems and other symbols that traditionally express the majesty of God (Rev 4:56). Universal creation is represented by the four living creatures (Rev 4:67). Along with the twenty-four elders, they praise God unceasingly in humble adoration (Rev 4:811).

Put together what you told God and what God told you.  Converse with God.
