Section 2, Scripture: Ps 103-1-14; DT 6:4-9; Luke 1:46-55; Luke 1:68-80

Hebrew Scripture New Testament
Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits.

Who pardons all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases

Who redeems your life from the pit; Who crowns you with loving kindness and compassion.

Who satisfies your years with good things. So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.

The Lord performs righteous deeds, And judgements for all who are oppressed

He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.

The Lord is compassionate and gracious. Slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness.

He will not always strive with us. Nor will He keep His anger forever.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His loving kindness toward those who fear Him.

As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed out transgressions from us.

As far as the east is from the west, So far has HE removed out transgression from us.

Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

PS 103:1-14 New American Standard Version

Shema

Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone! 5 Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength. 6 Take to heart these words which I command you today. 7 Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Bind them on your arm as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 USCCB

The Canticle of Mary.46 And Mary said:*

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;

47my spirit rejoices in God my savior.

48For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;

behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.

49The Mighty One has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

50His mercy is from age to age

to those who fear him.

51He has shown might with his arm,

dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.

52He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones

but lifted up the lowly.

53The hungry he has filled with good things;

the rich he has sent away empty.

54He has helped Israel his servant,

remembering his mercy,

55according to his promise to our fathers,

to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

Luke 1:46-55

Canticle of Zachary

“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,

for he has visited and brought redemption to his people.

69 He has raised up a horn for our salvation

within the house of David his servant,

70 even as he promised through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old:

71 salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us,

72 to show mercy to our fathers

and to be mindful of his holy covenant

73 and of the oath he swore to Abraham our father,

and to grant us that,74 rescued from the hand of enemies,

without fear we might worship him 75 in holiness and righteousness

before him all our days.

76 And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High,

for you will go before the Lord* to prepare his ways,

77 to give his people knowledge of salvation

through the forgiveness of their sins,

78 because of the tender mercy of our God

by which the daybreak from on high will visit us

79 to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow,

to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

Luke 1:68-80
