Lord, my immediate boss deserves my support. If the boss does well, we all do well. Help me to ascertain what are my boss’ strengths and weaknesses. I hope their strengths can be appreciated and that their weaknesses do not hijack them. Can I not be an ambassador for what the boss is trying to accomplish and for the recognition of their strengths? May I explain it well and often to those who may not understand nor readily endorse it.
Ideally, I’d like to be a positive “marketer” of my boss’ career. I hope to enhance the boss’ reputation, so that their power for good has maximum effect. May I speak the truth helpfully to my boss, while still respecting the appropriate roles we each play. May the boss’ strengths bring happiness and whatever is lacking not bring harm. If my boss behaves in a toxic manner, give me to courage to take the appropriate measures to handle that kind of situation.
Section 2, Scripture: Proverbs 3:27-34; Galatians 2:11
Hebrew Scripture | New Testament |
27 Refuse no one the good on which he has a claim when it is in your power to do it for him.
28 Say not to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give,” when you can give at once. 29 Plot no evil against your neighbor, against him who lives at peace with you. 30 Quarrel not with a man without cause, with one who has done you no harm. 31 Envy not the lawless man and choose none of his ways: 32 To the LORD the perverse man is an abomination, but with the upright is his friendship. 33 The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, but the dwelling of the just he blesses; 34 When he is dealing with the arrogant, he is stern, but to the humble he shows kindness.
